Well that was another emotional game!

Very unfortunate and was most definitely a game of two halves.

We have to be disciplined and not allow decisions good or bad, for or against create issues. Our ref stopped the game mid way through the second half, as a result of constant chatter and questioning on the pitch but primarily because she was worried about me when I challenged the linesman for having a go at Conor. It was that which upset her in the main, she is fine and I believe had a very good game.

Back to the game...

We started really well from the first whistle we pressed and played a lot of what Tim would describe as ‘Liquid football’. There was no two ways about it we completely bossed the first half and were regularly challenging their goalie and eventually it paid off. A superb cross from Sam S into the danger area found Will and he headed home, a really good goal so we were rightly 1-0 up.

I missed last weeks game, but the way in which we played was excellent and a joy to watch. We were doing everything right and playing in a manner which reflected what Tim and Jeff have been pushing for, so well done all.

There was a claim for a penalty through a handball towards the end of the first half but the ref clearly never saw it and so we must learn to let decisions go and play on. Just like my dodgy off side decisions 2 weeks ago we cannot blame or rely on decisions like this but need to win the games in our own right.

So we went into the break 1-0 up and rightly so.

As usual changes were made at half time and we never quite got back into the swing of the first half. Additionally the opposition were much stronger, as well as our confidence and control in the first, Eastbourne were not playing the way we had experienced last time we met. They corrected that and were much more demanding and on top of it in the second half and there increased appetite coupled with our slight reduction in play showed and they definitely were in control.

It was only a matter of time before they got their deserved goal but unfortunately 3 came in quick succession and we found ourselves 1-3 down and that was how it stayed.

We have to take positives from all of these games, with Jeff and Tims instruction and coaching we are definitely on an upward trajectory our play is getting better and more confident, our communication and desire is undoubtedly on the increase and we have a squad of players full of passion.

One final point, we must remember that HHFC is a grass roots club and we have been very successful with new players joining us to ensure we have good cover in all areas of the pitch and never have to field a team with no subs again. This does mean that we will rotate and substitute most players during the game and give everyone the opportunity to play in their desired position and hopefully progress and as referred above this is without doubt proving to work with many players performances improving week on week. This rotation will continue to be the case.

I and I am pretty sure the entire coaching squad are incredibly impressed by the progress we have made and excited about the next phase and whilst we will never win every game we are playing in a manner that certainly shows that we have the ability and can beat any team that is put in front of us.

Have a cracking weekend...
