We got away with that!

Heathfield & Horam U14s 8 - 3 Seddlescombe Rangers

We definitely got away with that!

Bearing in mind the way we have played over the passed few weeks that was not a great performance. It was very cold but all players on the pitch had to contend with that so thats no excuse. I can only assume that we just thought it was going to be easy and dropped our game, but no two ways about it, we would have suffered big time against better opponents.

That said we did win, and in the end it was quite a convincing score-line, but we should be looking to do that with good looking football and not just scrape through. But sometimes thats just the way it happens and a win is a win afterall. So ultimately well done boys.

We started very slowly and allowed Seddlescombe to control the game and with 5mins they were rewarded with a goal and went 0-1 up. Fortunately Sam R pulled it back with a great individual goal at 10mins and we were back to level. Unfortunately the linesman was too busy watching the game (sorry about that!) and it appears that I missed two offside decisions and they scored from both and went ahead 1-3. However, we should not have allowed a bad decision allow them to score, it wasnt as if we were playing an offside trap, if that had been the case then fine, but we should have been sharper. So we went into half time 1-3 down.

Changes were made at half time and then again a few minutes into the second half and Super sub Elliot scored four goals in quick succession, at 50, 52, 55 & 57 mins most being superb solo efforts barring the last when he was assisted by Conor and some how we were 5-3 ahead. We were still lacking across the pitch but were lucky to have some cracking individual efforts.

At 61mins Ollie H got the goal he has long deserved assisted by Lucas who had been running and challenging all match, and 3mins later Conor slotted one home assisted by Jude, who again worked his socks off! So we were 7-3 up and the game was ours as they were never going to come back from that, they did try and a few times we were caught sleeping again but thankfully they were not able to capitalise.

To finish it off Will got our 8th at 68mins and the game finished 8-3.

Ultimately well done, mission accomplished but we need to understand that it wasnt pretty, but hey ho sometimes thats how the cookie crumbles!

Thanks again to Tim for running the team and to Steve R for doing a proper linesmans job in the second half! And to all of the parents that help to put everything away!

See you all on Monday and have a lovely weekend...
