Let me start by saying a thank you to everyone who played today, everyone who helped set up, James who ran the line and all those who packed things away again at the end. Thank you.
Match report:
I thought we started well and early indications were that it was going to be a tough match. It did indeed prove to be just that as our opposition today were a strong physical side who pressed very quickly and didn’t give us much time or space on the ball. In the first half we struggled to keep possession at times although we did create a few chances but unfortunately failed to capitalise on those chances while the away team were able to break through our defences and score. We did eventually put the ball in the back of the net with some great work from Sam R which Harry S was able to convert. Our opposition today were far more clinical than us and unfortunately had extended their lead by the end of the first half.
2nd Half and we switched to a new formation of 4-5-1 which I had hoped would give a little bit more protection to our defence in open play and hopefully enable us to create more goal scoring opportunities than we managed in the first half. Unfortunately that wasn’t to be as the away side continued with their high work rate and physical play. We were able to score again in the second half with an amazing pass from Finlay C and an individual piece of skill from Sam R and credit to both players for that. Unfortunately today wasn’t our day and we didn’t play as well as we’re able to however we must learn from that and move on to next week’s visit to Eastbourne. It wasn’t all bad today and there were periods of play which we were very good in and everyone on that pitch had moments of real quality. It was a shame that we couldn’t piece all that quality together at the same time and play at the level that we’re capable of but that’s football and just how it goes sometimes. I’d also like to give some extra credit to Finlay today whose work rate was immense and who must of covered every single blade of grass on that pitch.
Thanks again, have a great weekend and see you on Monday night for training.
